An exhibition of Indian Contemporary Art at the
Shades & Wood
Art
Gallery
Kensington’s Shades and Wood Gallery continues to be in the forefront of bringing amazing talents from
India . The Gallery will be showcasing in August 2008, the works of Suresh Sharma, Sumitava Maity and Manohar Chiluveru.
Suresh Sharma-Master
Born in 1937, this 71 year old master has done shows with the likes of M F Hussein, Raza and Souza. The Shades & Wood Gallery has the privilege of bringing Suresh Sharma’s Show to
London .
“Whenever I have an opportunity to look at the sensitive works of Suresh Sharma, I marvel at the way he uses colours, with such a fine, subtle sense of ‘proportionate’ one and gradation. Slowly and gradually, it seems, he fills the picture-space with certain expanding notes of rhythmic harmony. The material, in terms of colour or pigment, becomes a handy tool through which he is able to construct an area, where the eye moves with ease, and in turn is enthralled by an aesthetic experience to be cherished. To call these works, just ‘Abstract’ will not do justice to them, as these are not any formal constructions. They may be non-representational, non-figurative by nature and by categorization, but we also know for sure that the colour of Rajasthan have a lot to do with these works, and they are imprinted here subtly and potently. “ Prayag Shukla-

Manohar Chiluveru-Upcoming Contemporary
Everything about Manohar Chiluveru ’s art is bold, colourful and large. Not so, however, the man himself. Modest in his appearance, soft-spoken and very likeable, Chiluveru doesn’t come across as an artist whose interest lies in the conflict between man and his environment. On the contrary, Chiluveru, who is still a new kid on the block in the international arts scene, seems very much in sync with the world outside his studio and has dreamt up an international live art project which involves various media and which will see him hopping from continent to continent in the next 3 -4 years.
Manohar has already achieved fame for painting the largest painting in India which is featured in the Limca Book of Records (
India ’s Guinness Book of Records). This painting was done for World Preservation Day.
